Why "Crooked Cactus"?

I have this picture from when I was young, and it's my father and I at a Daddy-Daughter Dance for Girl Scouts. We're sitting on a small bench, wearing denim head-to-toe, and I've got his cowboy hat on my head. We're both smiling, his arm around me, and a "desert" backdrop is hanging behind us. The top of the cactus is falling over, like the cactus prop broke.

It might seem like it's just any normal picture with a father and his daughter. But when I was 17, my father lost his battle with Leukemia and now that picture is one of my most cherished possessions. He was a photographer too, so we don't have a lot of pictures of him in front of the camera, and most of the ones we do have are from my childhood.

It's not a "perfect" picture, not posed or lit in a studio, but it's perfect to me because it represents everything I loved about my Daddy. That's why I've named my business Crooked Cactus Photography, because my goal is to produce images like this one for you and your family. So get out from behind the camera, get in front of mine, and let me create lasting memories that you'll cherish for a lifetime and longer.

About Me

My name is Heather Pitts. I graduated from Texas A&M in May of 2008 with a degree in English but now work as a graphic designer. If you can't tell by looking at my galleries, my style is not the kind you find at Walmart or Olan Mills. I try to capture life as it is, moments as they are, because I think that life is sweet and the memories we make now are what we'll remember in 50 years.
